Village Life Experience
Life in the mountains of Helambu is simple, unhurried and quaint. The people here make a livelihood through agriculture, and animal husbandry while some work in the capital city or abroad to get a better means of livelihood. Villagers here grow maize, barley, millet, beans, potatoes, radish and other seasonal crops. Kiwi fruit has come up as a popular cash crop in the region. Goats, sheep, buffaloes and often yaks are raised as livestock and a source of milk and manure.
Visitors to Helambu can bite into a slice of Helambu’s lifestyle by engaging in Farm activities, such as sowing and harvesting crops, collecting firewood, foraging, and even milking and herding livestock. One can also partake in and learn the process of weaving traditional bamboo cane articles such as doko (basket), nanglo (flat circular baskets used for drying and winnowing grains), mandro (mattress).
